Just a Heads Up

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)

Late this morning Sens. McCain and Graham went on the floor with what amounted to a pro-drone counter-stroke against Rand Paul’s filibuster last night. We’ll try to bring you some of the color about it shortly.

One kind of weird thing is that, separate from the argument about drones, McCain attacked Paul for giving fuel to the movement for filibuster reform.

But McCain seemed to be saying it in a way that was completely upside down. He was suggesting that Paul’s filibuster would give filibustering a bad name and lead to getting rid of it. To my mind though it provides an example of how a filibuster should work. So yes, I think it strengthens the argument for filibuster reform — not by discrediting it but by showing that this is how filibuster’s should work.
